Physical and special attacks use different attack factors. Defense and special defense affect the matching incoming damage category; they are not flat percentages of damage blocked. Speed is the game’s base movement value.

Your opening move

DEFAULT LOADOUT

Bug Bite

Bug · physical · Melee

A quick bite in a short arc.

The 400-coin Starting move upgrade is bought separately for each partner. It lets you choose a legal non-buff opening; the default remains available. Learning another attack during a run does not automatically change the active slot.

Butterfree has two types and does not receive the single-type ×1.20 damage bonus.

Choosing your cards

WHAT TO CHECK FIRST
  • The default Bug Bite uses the weaker physical factor. A special opening is worth considering if its 400-coin Starting move upgrade is already unlocked.
  • Bug/Flying opens two typed pools but does not receive the single-type damage bonus. Pick a route for its behavior and damage category, not just its label.

Move evolutions below upgrade an attack. They do not mean this partner changes into another Pokémon. For upgrade rules and slot choices, read the move evolution guide.

How strong is Butterfree?

A special route hidden behind a physical default

Butterfree’s 1.20 special factor is noticeably above 0.95 physical. We would develop special damage when the start unlock or early cards allow it.

The default remains Bug Bite. Buying special buffs while selecting only that physical attack misses the advantage, and Bug/Flying does not receive the single-type bonus.

ONE MAIN ROUTE FIRST

These are priorities and alternatives, not three attacks you receive or fire together. The selected slot keeps casting; existing projectiles, placed fields and temporary buffs can remain after switching. Bonds let several moves keep casting from one selected group.

A buff cast adds a stack rather than instantly granting the maximum bonus. Refresh it, return to damage before it expires, or combine it with damage in a Bond. It affects your player, not the whole team. Do not pass up a useful damage upgrade just to complete this list.

Special main attack

Signal Beam

special · Bug

Bouncing Bug projectiles use the stronger factor. After the start unlock it is a legal opening; Power supports its evolution.

MegahornLv. 5 Signal Beam + Power

Surrounding alternative

Gust

special · Flying

Orbiting Flying attacks provide another pattern in the same damage category. Sprint is their evolution requirement.

HurricaneLv. 5 Gust + Sprint

Matching buff

Nasty Plot

buff · Normal

This supports special damage. Do not prioritize it while Bug Bite is still your only active attack.

Upgrade order

  1. With the unlock, consider a special start; otherwise keep Bug Bite until a useful special move appears.
  2. Level the chosen special attack and take its evolution stat.
  3. Then add a buff or second pattern, using Bonds for simultaneous moves.

If the cards do not cooperate: Air Slash is a legal homing special alternative if Signal Beam is late. Its Reflexes requirement is not covered by taking Power.

Who we would pair with Butterfree

CO-OP PAIRINGS TO TRY

We would give Butterfree a special damage job beside someone comfortable near the crowd. Different categories divide the jobs; they do not create an automatic team multiplier.

Blastoise gives straightforward range while Butterfree develops the special plan. The pair need not duplicate every control card.

Beedrill can develop physical close clearing while Butterfree takes special range. Buy buffs for each player’s actual route.

Kanto pairings to try, not an all-roster co-op ranking or a tested best team. Each player manages their own active slot and buffs. A partner knowing a move does not mean it keeps casting throughout the run.

Small decisions that help

POSITION · SWITCH · UPGRADE
  1. Select the new attack

Learning Signal Beam does not activate it. Check the slot before refreshing Nasty Plot.

  2. Orbit needs positioning too

Gust surrounds you. Use an open path instead of chasing targets into the crowd.

  3. Read the purchase correctly

The 400 coins unlock a starting choice for Butterfree, not every partner and not another active slot.

These are the cards this partner can learn, including its default attack. They are choices, not a loadout you receive at once. An evolution requires the base move at its maximum level and the listed stat card; attack names alone do not imply extra effects such as healing.

Collection notes

KANTO · UNCOMMON

Butterfree belongs to the Kanto collection and has uncommon rarity. Check the Kanto pool when choosing a regional Gacha pull; a pull does not guarantee a specific species. Compare Gacha pools and pity rules →
