Blastoise

EpicWater

Blastoise has 106 base HP, 100 defense and 105 special defense, with Water Gun as its default opening. Its attack factors are nearly even, making it worth comparing the cards themselves.

Physical and special attacks use different attack factors. Defense and special defense affect the matching incoming damage category; they are not flat percentages of damage blocked. Speed is the game’s base movement value.

Your opening move

DEFAULT LOADOUT

Water Gun

Water · special · Projectile

A piercing jet. Reliable at any range.

The 400-coin Starting move upgrade is bought separately for each partner. It lets you choose a legal non-buff opening; the default remains available. Learning another attack during a run does not automatically change the active slot.

As a single-type Water partner, Blastoise gets ×1.20 damage on damaging Water moves. Normal alternatives and buffs do not inherit that bonus.

Choosing your cards

WHAT TO CHECK FIRST
  • Both damage categories are viable to compare: physical attack is 1.16 and special attack is 1.17 before upgrades.
  • Damaging Water cards receive the single-type bonus. Higher defenses soften hits through the game’s formula; they are not a promise that you can stand still.

Move evolutions below upgrade an attack. They do not mean this partner changes into another Pokémon. For upgrade rules and slot choices, read the move evolution guide.

How strong is Blastoise?

A solid defensive base with practical Water options

We would choose Blastoise for its 106 HP, 100 defense and 105 special defense alongside the Water pool. It is a sensible progression option when you value room to reposition.

The game softens defense scaling. Those values do not create a tank role, shared damage reduction or a guarantee of surviving contact.

ONE MAIN ROUTE FIRST

These are priorities and alternatives, not three attacks you receive or fire together. The selected slot keeps casting; existing projectiles, placed fields and temporary buffs can remain after switching. Bonds let several moves keep casting from one selected group.

A buff cast adds a stack rather than instantly granting the maximum bonus. Refresh it, return to damage before it expires, or combine it with damage in a Bond. It affects your player, not the whole team. Do not pass up a useful damage upgrade just to complete this list.

Stable opening

Water Gun

special · Water

Level the default and take Power for its evolution before trying to cover every job.

ScaldLv. 5 Water Gun + Power

Slow the approach

Bubble

special · Water

A slowing spread provides a different pattern from Water Gun’s nearest-target projectile.

SurfLv. 5 Bubble + Sprint

Sustain after damage

Aqua Ring

buff · Water

Regeneration helps only while the buff is kept up. Plan refreshes or a Bond instead of treating a learned card as passive healing.

Upgrade order

  1. Secure a main Water attack and its early levels.
  2. Match the evolution stat to that route, then select the evolution card.
  3. Build sustain after damage; keep the chosen Bond group active if combining moves.

If the cards do not cooperate: Whirlpool is a legal control alternative if Bubble is late. It asks for Synthesis rather than Sprint, so change the evolution plan deliberately.

Who we would pair with Blastoise

CO-OP PAIRINGS TO TRY

We would pair a damage-first player with Blastoise taking a measured control or sustain route. Aqua Ring cannot heal the other player, who still needs personal survival upgrades.

Charizard supplies another special projectile. Blastoise can later choose slow while both keep a common retreat path.

Venusaur can commit to Poison damage while Blastoise handles Water control. Discuss who covers close approaches.

Kanto pairings to try, not an all-roster co-op ranking or a tested best team. Each player manages their own active slot and buffs. A partner knowing a move does not mean it keeps casting throughout the run.

Small decisions that help

POSITION · SWITCH · UPGRADE
  1. Use defenses to reposition

After a mistake, leave and recover rather than test how many more hits the partner can take.

  2. Select the control move

Bubble cannot slow enemies while an unbonded Water Gun slot remains selected.

  3. Keep the unlock optional

Water Gun already matches the slightly stronger special factor. The start unlock is flexibility, not a required purchase.

These are the cards this partner can learn, including its default attack. They are choices, not a loadout you receive at once. An evolution requires the base move at its maximum level and the listed stat card; attack names alone do not imply extra effects such as healing.
